Rosa Cayro was born in Dubuque, Iowa, where her family first inspired her by introducing a variety of art, music and foreign cultures into their home. As her parents sat for portraits by deceased painter Franceso Liccardi, she watched fascinated by his precision, and secretly knew that was what she wanted to be. However, Rosa suppressed her own artistic talent until her senior year in high school. While taking photography she rediscovered her passion for the human form and surrealism.
During her freshman year at Loras College, Rosa formally began to train in art. After her first journey to Europe while attending college, she felt challenged to reevaluate her life. Following her sophomore year of college, she moved to New York and began working as a fashion model. Fueled by the vast sources of artistic exposure in this environment, she began to develop her artistic style. Eventually she decided to translate a collection of this energy in another form of expression and returned home to graduate college with an Art degree and move to Chicago, Illinois.
Rosa's personal style is an expression of the human form, nature, unconscious intuition, and universal emotion that has been tempered by her perception of beauty and detailing design concepts with warm/cool relationships. It has evolved from reflected images of her travels to Europe, South America, the Mediterranean and the United States. Her works are pieces of a journey to find the inner self and purpose.
Her work is based on dreams, memories and feelings that are used to uncover the unconscious fears, passions and obsessions. Elongated and exaggerated objects are symbols that amplify themes of significance.
